Hempstead County Election Results

Hempstead County had several close races in the primary election and a tie in the circuit clerk’s race as final, unofficial results were tallied Tuesday (3-3) night.

Incumbent Hempstead County Judge Jerry T. Crane defeated challenger Kenneth Harvill 1,532 votes to 842.

In the sheriff’s race, Justin Crane narrowly defeated Jesus J. Coronado 1,274 to 1,102.

In the Circuit Clerk’s race, both incumbent Gail Wolfenbarger and Becky Hood each polled 1,168 votes.  According to Hempstead County Clerk Karen Smith, there will be an automatic recount in that race.

In Hempstead County Justice of the Peace District 1, Dr. Claudia Griffin polled 35 votes to 7 for Shelley Marie.

The proposed millage for the Hope Public Schools failed 1008 against and 892 for.

In the District 88 race for the Republican nomination for State Representative, incumbent Dolly Henley polled 1,697 votes in Hempstead County compared to 625 for challenger Lonny Mack Goodwin.  In Howard County, Henley polled 448 votes compared to 248 for Goodwin.

In the race for Circuit Judge, District 8-North, Division 2, Kolby Harper polled 1,535 votes compared to 1,149 for Matthew Wade Kimmell.  Harper polled 527 in Nevada County and Kimmell received 536 in Nevada County.  Harper wins the race with a total of 2,062 compared to 1,685 for Kimmell.

In the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, incumbent Tom Cotton polled 1,959 votes in Hempstead County compared to 226 for Micah Ashby and 148 for Jeb Little.

In the Republican primary for Secretary of State, Kim Hammer received 1,012 votes in Hempstead County, Cathy Hardin Harrison received 645 votes, and Bryan Norris received 588 votes.

In the Republican primary for Commissioner of State Lands, Cole Jester received 1,756 votes in Hempstead County compared to Christian Olson with 482.

In Democratic primary results in Hempstead County, Ethan Dunbar polled 203 votes compared to 199 for Hallie Shofner.  In the Democratic primary for 4th District Congressman, James “Russ” Russell, II polled 230 votes in Hempstead County compared to 164 for Steven Layne O’Donnell.  In the primary for Democratic nominee for Governor, Fred Love took 374 votes in Hempstead County compared to 45 for Supra Xayprasith-Mays.

In the race for State Supreme Court Associate Justice Position 2, Nick Bronni polled 1,818 votes in Hempstead County compared to 798 for John Adams.
