WASHINGTON – The Washington Vintage Dance class met at the Old Washington Fire Station and came to order at 7:18pm. Joshua Williams showed the group how to do the “Virginia Reel”, which was introduced circa 1800. He then played music from that century, leading the group through the dance.
Another family arrived as the dance ended. After the dance, there was a break, while Mr. Williams looked for another dance to teach and talked to the new arrivals.
Joshua Williams then set up the dancers for another dance, “The Ronda”, which was introduced in the mid 19th century. Mr. Williams again played period music when they had practiced it a few times.
The next dance they learned was the “Alexdrina Waltz”, which was introduced around the same time as “The Ronda”. After some practice, they tried it with music.
They tried another dance, the “Correllis Maggot”, practicing it a few times before trying it with period music. The Maggot was introduced in the 18th century.
They tried another dance, “La Bastrique”, introduced in the 19th century. After practicing it a few times, they tried it with music. There were cries to do it one more time, to which they did. The next meeting is set for June 13th.
