The Washington City Council met on Tuesday (7-21). The previous meeting’s minutes were reviewed and the council voted to approve them.
Mayor Paul Henley discussed animal control. He noted there were a few animals
that were captured and there are currently two cats in the pen by the fire station.
Mark Roberts gave the water report. He discussed two doors that had hinge issues, but Dwayne Rowe said they are now fixed.
Roberts had submitted a report about some water lines that were placed. Several cities have applied for a Block Grant. Roberts suggested getting enough interest from people to apply for such a grant. There was some discussion about what it would cost to maintain the new water lines. It was also noted there is some damage to the water tower, and the damage claim will be submitted.
Mayor Henley said that the city tractor’s seat was stolen. He noted he asked John Deere to keep an eye out. There was discussion about putting
security cameras near the fire station. Wi-Fi is needed for most cameras and it was noted there have been requests for Wi-Fi to be
put in the fire station.
Jon Barry, the volunteer fire department chief, gave the fire department report. There is automatic aid, where if Cross Roads was
paged out, Washington Volunteer Fire Department would be called out. There was one call for a car fire since last city council meeting.
The council discussed their bank account that had been with Cadence. That bank has changed to Huntington Bank. The council discussed changing banks and voted to move their account to Farmers Bank & Trust.
Mayor Henley collected all the insurance claims for the damage from the hail back in April. The city has received two checks to cover damage. The old fire station needs its roof replaced. The new fire station has some hail damage although it is minor.
The city has been notified by State Representative Dolly Henley the highway department is ready to do some road work in Washington.
Joshua Williams asked the board if the tourism board was willing to give $500 to help pay for advertising for Civil War Weekend, which is November 5th and 6th. The meeting was then adjourned.
