Stories of the Blue Jay
Featuring: Daryl Martin – Class of 1989
Daryl was a member of Nevada’s first graduating class, one of the first to play Blue Jay basketball, and one of the first to submit a video for our Roots & Wings Project.
After beginning his career in the United States Air Force, Daryl became a Dental Laboratory Technician—a career he has now enjoyed for 36 years. He currently lives in Tennessee.
In his video, Daryl gave our students a behind-the-scenes look inside his lab and demonstrated the skills required to design and create custom dentures and crowns. Students were able to see the different steps, materials, and specialized equipment involved in the process.
Most admitted they had never considered (or even given much thought to) this type of career. That is exactly what our Roots & Wings Project is all about: introducing students to possibilities they may not otherwise know exist.
Thank you, Daryl, for serving our country, taking the time to give back to your school, sharing your experience, and helping to broaden our students’ knowledge of the many career paths available to them. Once a Blue Jay, always a Blue Jay!
