HOPE – The Hempstead County Historical Society met on 8-25 at 7pm. There is a historical fiction murder mystery planned for Saturday, August 29th, 2026. There were winners of the original song contest for the Music in the Park event. They were Kathy and Liz Woll.
The main topic was about the American Heritage Girls and American Heritage Boys went to the White House. Naomi Williams, who is in the American Heritage Girls, presented who the American Heritage Girls group are. The American Heritage Girls are a group that teach basic life skills, such as building a fire. A badge is given for learning these skills. The groups went to Washington D.C. and saw different sights, such as the Washington Monument. She discussed going into the White House Library and seeing some of Thomas Jefferson’s books, some of them having to be rebound because of old age. The group also went to Mount Vernon and toured George Washington’s home.
