HOPE — Southwest Arkansas Regional Medical Center has been selected to participate in several
projects funded through the Arkansas Rural Health Transformation Program, bringing more than $1
million in funding to improvements that will strengthen emergency preparedness, expand access to
specialty care and support healthcare services for patients in Southwest Arkansas.
The funding is part of the first round of awards announced by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The
Arkansas Rural Health Partnership was awarded $18.8 million to support rural healthcare projects across
Arkansas, including several initiatives involving Southwest Arkansas Regional Medical Center:
● $774,340 for a new emergency generator to help keep the hospital running and continue
providing care during power outages, severe weather and other emergencies.
● $176,850 to expand access to specialty care through telemedicine, including virtual physician
carts that will allow local patients to connect with specialists without having to travel.
● $35,370 for emergency teleconsultation, giving the emergency department greater access to
specialized medical expertise when it is needed most.
● $25,500 to support behavioral health services, helping improve care for patients experiencing
behavioral health emergencies while promoting a safer environment.
“These investments will make a meaningful difference in our ability to care for the people of Southwest
Arkansas,” said Shelby Brown, Chief Administrative Officer. “This funding gives us the opportunity to
expand the care and resources available to patients in our community and make sure more people can
get the care they need.”
Together, these projects represent a significant investment in the future of Southwest Arkansas Regional
Medical Center and the health of Hempstead County and surrounding communities, helping ensure
patients have access to quality care close to home.
