Statement issued by Nevada School District

We want to inform you that our schools were on lockdown this afternoon for approximately one and one half hours. The lockdown was done as a precaution due to a threat that originated outside of our school. We remained under lockdown until advised by law enforcement that the situation was clear. At no time was danger present on the campus.
We would like to thank the Nevada and Hempstead County Sheriff’s offices for sealing and securing our campus. We would like to thank our principals and their faculty and staff members for doing a fine job of securing students in classrooms and keeping the process safe and orderly. We especially thank our students for being so cooperative in the process.
Finally, we would like to thank our parents for being so understanding in this situation. The safety of our students and our school will always be our first priority. We are deeply appreciative of everyone who did their part today. We are BLUE JAYS.
Roy McCoy, Superintendent
Nevada School District
