Leadership group enjoys retreat
COLUMBUS – The 2017 Class of Leadership Nevada County started in January with an opening retreat. The retreat was held at the Rick Evans Grandview Prairie Conservation Education Center in Columbus Arkansas on January 12-13.
The nine participants of Leadership Nevada County spent the two days learning skills that will help them be effective leaders for Nevada County. The class consists of James Kemp, Miccah Sargent, Robert Missey, Carla Christopher, Paula Rucks, Melissa Owens, Susan Wright, Jerry Hightower and Bruce Bean. The sessions covered evaluating and managing different personality types, leadership communication, how to evaluate demographic information, managing and dealing with change, and practical team work skills.
Over the course of the two-days the participants worked in groups and as individuals to complete a variety of tasks. The interaction helped them become more familiar with each other, building bridges that will help them on future projects for the community. Over the next 11 months this concept of working together to change our community for the better will be stressed by a large number of presenters.
The participants were also divided into two smaller groups. Each smaller group must complete a community service project during the course of the year. The service projects must be original projects and must benefit the community directly. At the retreat the service project groups spent some time planning the type project they would like to pursue.
In addition to all the learning and work there was also some time for fun. Friday afternoon the group spent a couple of hours skeet shooting. Each participant tested their skill as shooting skeet from a number of different skill positions. The group was also given a tour of the Rick Evans Grandview Prairie. Thursday evening, the group had free time to play games, and learn more about each other.
