HOPE – A grant from the Blue and You Foundation was awarded to the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday.

The grant, for $1,000, will be used to purchase and AED for the HCSO. When received, it will be assigned to a deputy to be carried in his or her vehicle. The HCSO currently has eight AEDs assigned to patrol deputies who have been trained in their use.

Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton said the department’s goal is to have an AED in every deputy’s vehicle, the command post, dive team trailer and the search and rescue Humvee. He added, each AED costs approximately $1,300.

“I would like to thank the Blue and You Foundation,” he said, “fit its commitment to assist law enforcement and first responders. This piece of lifesaving equipment will allow our deputies to render aid when their arrive on a cardiac emergency.”
