HOPE – Ryan Stinson, 23, of Nashville, has been charged with filing a false police report.

According to a release from the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the charge stems from a one-vehicle accident involving Stinson’s vehicle. The accident occurred at 6:2- a.m. on March 14 on Hempstead 27, near Hempstead 325. The car was being driven by Brandon Elkins, with Jake Ganous the passenger. Stinson was contacted and asked if he’d let anyone borrow his car and reportedly said he hadn’t, and his car should be in the yard. Stinson was informed the car had been in an accident.

Based on Stinson’s comments, Elkins and Ganous were arrested and charged with theft of property, a motor vehicle.

However, deputies continued investigating the incident and learned Stinson had filed a false report. Elkins and Ganous were released, though Elkins was cited for having no driver’s license and Ganous was ticketed for not wearing a seat belt.

Stinson was charged with filing a false police report, a Class D felony.
