HOPE – The Home Economics class at Garrett Memorial Christian School, taught by Julie Cochran, completed a 4-H community service project Wednesday at a school-wide assembly.

The girls had chosen to do a fund raiser for the Hope Animal Shelter and Hope For Paws, under the direction of 4-H advisor Whitney Rook. They made donation boxes, started a Pennies For Pups contest, baked and sold Cookies For Canines throughout the school.

Before being presented with the money raised ($1,500) and the donated items, Hope Animal Shelter Officer Tammy Austin and Carol Ann Robinson and Joanne Sandlin (accompanied by her dog Sophie) with Hope For Paws, spoke about the responsibilities of owning a dog, dog safety and ‘Adopt, Don’t Shop’.

The audience especially enjoyed seeing a slide show of adoptable, available dogs that currently are at the Shelter.
