Smith named executive director of SWAAC
HOPE – The Southwest Arkansas Arts Council(SWAAC) held its annual membership meeting Wednesday, June 21, and followed it by its regular monthly board meeting.
Kim Hollis, SWAAC president, announced the executive committee had appointed George S. Smith, a Hope native and resident of the Sutton Community, as its executive director. Smith will resume his duties on August 7.
Hollis also announced three new board members have been elected – Lindsey Honea, Margaret Moss and Alex Chavez. She also said that new board officers will be announced at the council’s July meeting.
At the membership meeting, those present voted to hold the annual meeting “in June of each year” instead of the “third Wednesday in June” as stated in the bylaws in order to avoid conflicts in scheduling.
It was also announced that this year’s STAR Academy will be held July 10-14 for ages “rising” 1 through 12. Daily classes will be from 1-5 p.m. each day with the final performance at 6 p.m. on July 14.
Anyone interested in having their child(ren) attend the academy should contact Allison Wilson at 479-530-0684.
