Timber Workshop
Dozens of timber and landowners filled the meeting room at the University of Arkansas Southwest Research and Extension Center east of Hope Thursday (9-14) for a Timber Workshop. Dr. Jon Barry of the SWREC staff and Dr. Kyle Cunningham of Little Rock addressed the crowd on several topics of interest to owners of small timber farms. Topics included “How to Estimate the Value of Your Timber” as well as “How to Conduct A Timber Sale”. Dr. Barry says marketing timber has changed a lot in the past twenty years making the topic very timely. Dr. Cunningham talked specifically on estimating the value of timber.
In addition to the remarks of Dr. Barry and Dr. Cunningham, participants enjoyed a meal and also received a tour of some of the SWREC’s timber plots.
Dr. Barry said over 60 participants preregistered and the facility also expected some walk-ins as well.
As a bonus, the participant were sent home with a big of fresh scuppernongs or muscadines grown at the Experiment station.
