HOPE – The NRA Foundation has awarded the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana Iron Horse Shooting Team a grant totaling $3,629.

The grant is used to fund the team’s registration fees in the Arkansas State Championship Shoot and National Championship Shoot this spring. “We are very excited to be able to help our local college’s shooting team and pleased that the NRA is investing in our community,” said Cyril Stewart, vice-chairman of the Piney Woods Friends of the NRA Chapter #AR28.

The U of A Hope-Texarkana Iron Horse Shooting Team was established in 2014. The team competes each year in the Arkansas State shoot in Tillar, Arkansas, and in the National Championship shoot in San Antonio, Texas. “Without the funding provided by the NRA, we would not be able to offer this opportunity to our students,” said Jill Bobo, U of A Hope-Texarkana Foundation Executive Director.

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen’s group. Five million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and is the leader in firearms education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement, and the military.

The NRA Foundation, Inc., established in 1990, is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization that raises tax-deductible contributions in support of a wide range of firearm-related public interest activities of the National Rifle Association of America and other organizations that defend and foster the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans.

Friends of the NRA is a grassroots fund-raising program that fosters community involvement to organize and, with help from NRA field staff, plan community events for firearms enthusiasts. All net proceeds from Friends of NRA events are allocated to The NRA Foundation, the leading charitable organization in support of shooting sports. Through NRA Foundation grants for equipment, training materials, range improvements, and more, qualified local, state, and national programs receive aid to involve and inspire a new generation of competitive shooters.

The local chapter of the Friends of the NRA will hold their annual banquet Saturday, September 30, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Prescott. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call 870-331-9975.
