Summer Weather for October

The first twelve days of October 2017 seem to point to a weather pattern that isn’t making up its mind. The month has seen three days with highs in the 90’s with the highest reading, 92, coming in the 24 hour period ending October 10th. At least one more 90 degree reading is forecast for the month although a cooling trend is expected Monday with lows in the early part of the week forecast to be in the mid 40’s.
October has so far seen four days with lows in the 50’s and two days with lows in the 40’s. The coolest temperature so far came on the morning of October 11th with a reading of 45 at the Southwest Research and Extension Center.
No rainfall has been recorded officially in the first twelve days of October. At the end of September the the year to date rainfall was 41.85 inches compared to a normal of 38.7 inches. Hempstead County and most of southwest Arkansas are in a drought and Hempstead County remains under a burn ban pending the area receiving significant rainfall.
