Spring Hill Bears win over Murfreesboro Rattlers

SPRING HILL- The Spring Hill Bears took on the Murfreesboro Rattlers Friday night, October 20 at their home stadium. The captains for the evening were number 9, Parker Freeman and number 10, Ty Rosenbaum. The Bears won the coin toss and choose to receive the ball for the first kickoff. The kickoff was returned to the 38 yard line by Cameron Middleton.

The game kicked off with a slow start with neither team scoring during the first quarter. With the second quarter starting tied at zero, and the Rattlers starting on the 3 yard line Rattlers number 15, Cross moved the ball just short of the goal line then into the end zone followed with a rattler two point conversion making the game 8-0 with the Bears trailing. The kickoff was returned by number 7, Hays Martin to the 40 yard line. Payton Massanelli as quarterback keeper ran the ball out of bounds at the 47 yard line with a false start call against the Rattlers the Bears receive a first down at the Rattler 48. A pass made to Middleton got the Bear fourth down at the 46 followed with a pass the Lewis Chambers at the 36 getting the first down. Massanelli carried the ball to the 25 and Martin had a gain of four on the next play to get the second down an offsides and incomplete pass the Bears were at third down Massanelli ran the ball in for the first Bear touchdown of the night followed with Middleton bringing in the two point conversion tying the game at 8-8. The Rattlers started first and ten at the 36 and started with a fumble. With Marshall Glover making several stops for the Bears, they took over on downs. Chambers with a pass to Massanelli with a 54 yard touchdown run and a two point conversion by Keymote Rhodes the game was being lead by the Bears 16-8 to end the first half.

Coming back after the half, with an onside kickoff the Rattlers took over at the Bears 48. With stops from Rhodes, Dustin Beck, and Drake Kidd the Rattlers were at fourth down. With pressure on them the Rattlers made a pass was intercepted by Freeman at their own 2 yard line. Although the Bears weren’t able to get the ball moving and punted the ball back to the 47. With Rattlers in possession of the ball a pass was broken up by Middleton making it second and ten for the rattlers. Rusty Orr was able to make a stop in the back field bringing in the third down at the 50. A pass was intercepted by Middleton and brought back to the Bears 12. False starts were called on the Bears and Rhodes on a carry making it third and twenty. With a great pass made by Massanelli to Chambers, Chambers was able to run the ball in for a 96 yard touchdown run, Massanelli then ran the ball in for a two point conversion bringing the score to 24-8.  The kickoff was returned to the 36 being stopped by Beck.

The fourth quarter is were the heat of the game started. With stops made by Glover, Rosenbaum, and Kidd followed with a false start called against the Rattlers. While at the 26 they made a pass that was intercepted by Martin. With an unsportsmanlike conduct call on both teams the ball was placed at the 15. With a few calls made that Bear fans were against the Bears punted the ball to the 10 yard line. At the 10 and a flag on the play an unsportsmanlike conduct call was made against the Bears and moved to the 25. A pass was made by the Rattlers and was stopped by Chambers at the Bears 38. Rhodes made a stop in the back field but had an inverted face masks called on him receiving a five yard penalty. The Rattlers were then able to receive their second and final touchdown for the night, a two point conversion was attempted but stopped by Beck and Levi Kidd making the final score for the nights game 24-14 with the Bears coming out with the win.
