Teeter honored at Depot coffee

PRESCOTT – John Teeter was honored Friday morning at a coffee sponsored by the Prescott-Nevada County Depot and Museum.

He would have been 98-years-old. Teeter was instrumental in preventing the 1912 train depot from being demolished and becoming a museum. He and the city worked with Union Pacific to buy the building, which was purchased for $1. It became the museum in 1976, with Teeter its first curator, a position he remained in for 25 years before retiring in 2001 due to poor health.

Teeter was active in the community, working with civic clubs and organizations, along with businesses. One of the things he did was to gather weather data, which was regularly published in the defunct Nevada County Picayune.
