UAHT offers EMS program
HOPE – The field of emergency medical services (EMS) is an exciting, growing career field. Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics care for the sick or injured in emergency medical settings. People’s lives often depend on the quick reaction and competent care provided by these professionals. EMTs and paramedics respond to emergency calls, performing medical services and transporting patients to medical facilities.
The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana offers three quality programs to prepare students for careers in EMS including:
- Certificate of Proficiency-Emergency Medical Technician Basic
- Technical Certificate in Paramedic
- Associate of Applied Science in Paramedic
The median annual wage for EMTs and paramedics was $34,320 in May 2018. Employment of EMTs and paramedics is projected to grow 15 percent by 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. Emergencies, such as car crashes, natural disasters, severe medical conditions, and acts of violence, will continue to require the skills of EMTs and paramedics.(1)
