In one for the record books, the Hope area received more snow than almost anyone can remember.  According to the National Weather Service, Hope was in an area that received 18 to 22 inches in the two storms that began Sunday and ended Wednesday.  Unofficial reports of 23 and 24 inches were not uncommon.   Apparently the most damage was to such structures as carports, chicken houses, and barns with at least one awning damaged on Main Street in downtown Hope.  Main highways and streets were passable Thursday but with forecast lows Thursday night calling for 11 degrees it is expected travel will be treacherous in the early morning hours Friday.
