Hempstead County Quorum Court
The Hempstead County Quorum Court met Thursday for their November meeting. The meeting was held one week early as the regular meeting date fell on Thanksgiving. Following the prayer led by Jesse Henry and the Pledge by Troy Lerew, the JP’s moved into the agenda items.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jim Burke read Ordinance 2022-12, Local Assistance Tribal Consistency Fund (LATC) Fund # 1007, was added to the General Agency Funds. This will help the county be ready to receive our share of some additional Federal Funds having to do with the American Rescue Funding, Ed Darling explained. All were in favor. Ordinance passed.
JP Ed Darling also had several other items he asked the Court to be thinking about between now and the Budget meeting at the end of the month plus some things that could be coming up in February.
Mrs. Bonnie Raff spoke to the Court about Native American Heritage Month for the Month of November. The DAR Chapter wanted to recognize the American Indian since there were more than 2 million living in America.
Sheriff James Singleton wanted to let the Quorum Court know that he had one of his old heating and air units go out in the Jail on Monday so be prepared for that bill to be over $ 10,000.00.
