PRESCOTT – A back-t0-school bash was held Saturday evening at Curry’s Community Center to get local students ready to return to school Monday morning.

The bash began with a discussion on the danger of drugs, underage drinking, smoking and vaping. The children were told how drugs can be fatal, especially fentanyl, which is highly addictive and can kill with a small dose. They were told how it affects them physically and mentally and could also land them in jail. When it came to underage drinking, they were told how it, too, can negatively affect their lives, costing them jobs and potential scholarships in the future, as well as having unscrupulous people take advantage of them.

On the topic of smoking and vaping, the children were told one Juuls pod has as much nicotine as 12 cigarettes. They were told of the diseases using tobacco products can cause and how addictive nicotine products are.

Additionally, they were told the importance of getting a good education and how it could open doors that would otherwise be closed to them.

Brown bag lunches were provided with sandwiches, chips, cookies and a drink included. Pamphlets and booklets were also available for parents to help them understand and recognize when their child may be using drugs, alcohol or tobacco products.

However, what the children really got excited about was the game truck with its bank of video games. Once the game truck was ready the youngsters headed out to have some fun.
