Food Share Serves Hundreds Monthly in Nevada County
Food Share Arkansas in Prescott was established in February 2008. It is a community food pantry serving residents of Nevada County. Total served each month ranges from 225 up to 350. Food Share is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 2 PM.
In order to be served a client must have a current photo ID and current utility bill showing the applicant’s name and address. The monthly income can be more than $1,580 for 1 individual receiving commodities or $1,839 if not receiving commodities. For a family the maximum is $3,250 for commodities or $3,714 for non-commodities. The first are government funded while the second are funded by donations and grants.
The organization is a 501c3 organization and can receive donations at Food Share Arkansas, 229 East Main Street, Prescott, AR 71857 (or mailed to PO Box 501). It is quite important that it is a collaborative effort involving the community. Churches, community leaders, civic groups, and governmental agencies have all been involved. This collaboration helps ensure a steady supply if food.
