Edith Verlene Ward Cole
Edith Verlene Ward Cole, 98, of Hope Arkansas passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025. Born on February 20,1926 to Johnnie and Bessie Ward in Woodworth, Louisiana. Edith was a long-time member of Union Baptist Church, Bodcaw, Arkansas. She enjoyed a life of sewing not only clothing but that of quilting and making dolls. She loved finding new recipes, and her family was always willing partakers. Cooking and doing crafts came naturally to her. But one of the natural qualities many would love to have, was the green thumb she had. One could say, she could even make a weed bloom! Edith never had a bad word to say about anyone and was known for her kindheartedness and forgivingness.
Preceded in death by her spouse, Alious “Al” Cole; her parents Johnnie and Bessie Ward; son, Larry Cole; daughter, Karen Perice; brothers, Harold Ward and Hugh Ward.
Edith is survived by her son, Dennis Cole (Linda) of Magnolia, Arkansas; daughter, Sharon Matherly of Hope, Arkansas; brothers, Denver Ward of Perrytown, Arkansas and Ray Ward of Bodcaw, Arkansas; sisters, Dorothy Jackson of Waldo, Arkansas and Trudie Dillard of Bodcaw, Arkansas; grandchildren, Laura (Larry) Douglas, Jason (Jessica) Matherly, Ryan (Kristal) Cole and Steven Mark Cole; great grandchildren, Mandi (Gray) Ramsey, Kayla (Chris) Locke, Canan Douglas, Olivia Matherly, Andrew Cole and Ajay Cole; great great grandchildren, Cole Ramsey, Lillian Ramsey, and Cruz Ramsey; and a host of family and friends throughout the years.
There will be a visitation on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Union Baptist Church, Bodcaw, Arkansas from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the church. Funeral Services will be held following the visitation at 1:00 pm at Union Baptist Church, Bodcaw, Arkansas with Brother Joe Brown officiating. Services are under the direction of A O Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, Arkansas.
