MCCASKILL – Four fire departments responded to a structural fire at 4485 US 371 just east of McCaskill Wednesday (5-7) around 9:30am. Fire personnel from McCaskill, Blevins, Bingen, and DeAnn responded to the fire. There were no utilities connected to the uninhibited structure. People at the scene believed the fire was set.
“The home was fully involved upon arrival. It was a total loss; there was a WW2 munition there. It was disposed of by the Air Force munitions disposal team. Fortunately, it did not detonate while firemen were working the fire. It made a large crater when it was properly disposed of. Living with a World War 2 proving ground in our back yard, these turn up from time to time. PLEASE, if you find one don’t touch it and call the authorities. This one could have taken out half the firefights on scene. They are still very powerful and deadly munitions.” Blevins Fire Department social media statement.
