ROSSTON, Ark. — The Rosston City Council moved forward Monday evening (4-13) on several infrastructure and community upkeep items, approving water system improvements and a new awning for City Hall during its regular meeting at Rosston City Hall. Mayor and council members called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m., followed by an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes from the previous meeting were reviewed and approved without objection.
During the old business discussion, the council reviewed a budget report that was described as favorable overall. Some discussion centered on how sales tax revenue collected is being distributed to the city, with council members asking clarifying questions but taking no formal action.
In new business, council members considered the needed construction work at the city’s water well house, including general construction and roofing. After discussion, the council approved the work, noting the costs will be paid entirely from water department funds rather than the city’s general budget. Officials said the improvements are necessary to maintain the integrity of the city’s water system and to prevent potential weather and wear damage.
The council also approved the purchase and installation of a new awning at Rosston City Hall. The expenditure will be covered by city budget funds and is intended to provide safer and more convenient access for residents, particularly senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. Council members noted the awning will allow people entering City Hall to remain dry during rain and be protected from harsh weather conditions. It was also said that scheduling the work in the spring should help avoid delays caused sometimes by weather conditions typically seen in other seasons. Both the water well construction and the City Hall awning projects are expected to be scheduled soon.
During the discussion of contractor bids, council members noted that local contractors submitted significantly lower quotes than those from non-local contractors. Based on that information, the council approved the local bids for both projects.
In addition to business, the council discussed possibly declaring a city service truck surplus property. Approval would allow the city to dispose of the vehicle in accordance with state law. No final action was taken during the meeting.
Council members also discussed hiring a part-time cleanup crew to help control litter along city roadways, continuing efforts to keep Rosston clean and well-maintained. With no further questions or comments from council members or those in attendance, the meeting was adjourned.
