Washington City Council April meeting

WASHINGTON – The Washington City Council met on April 21st at 12:03 pm. The previous meeting’s minutes were reviewed and approved. The financial statement was examined and approved. Dr. Daniel Ford asked about a street light that was planned to be removed from the intersection he lived near. No one had any information on it. Mayor Paul Henley said that the city received 2% of profits from people staying at the jail — which is now a bed and breakfast. Mayor Henley said that the occupancy rate is 14%. It should be at 80% to break even with expenses.

There is an aggressive pitbull problem in Washington. The mayor said that they would wait another month to see if the situation cleared.

Mayor Henley mentioned that the water manager, Mike Roberts, is no longer working for the city of Fulton. Jon Barry, the fire chief, told Mr. Roberts that a fire hydrant by Grace Cottage that is acting up. There is a hydrant by the 1914 Schoolhouse that need to be fixed as well.

Jon Barry gave the Fire Department report. One medical call and one fire call assisting Cross Roads. Brayn Ware, an ISO field rep from Verisk gave the Department a good report for the city’s water pressure.
Jon Barry asked the Board if they could sign an Automatic Aid Agreement with Cross Roads. Cross Roads previously asked the Washington Volunteer Fire Department if they would agree to help with structure fires due to the department being shorthanded. Cross Roads will help Washington as well. Ozan/Yancy and Spring Hill/Patmos have the same agreement. There was a passed motion to sign the Automatic Aid Agreement. Joshua Williams, a fireman, gave the earnings the Department made from the Jonquil Festival. The earnings were $1,757.50.
Vertical Bridge sent the city a letter asking the city if they wanted to buy the land their cell tower is on. The decision was to not sell the land.

The city received a flag for America’s 250th birthday. The city was trying to install sidewalks in the city, with the Arkansas State Parks system, but the project has been put on hold.
