Nevada School Board

The Nevada School Board met on May 21st. After a prayer and the pledge of allegiance, the roll call was given, of which all but one were present. The previous meeting’s minutes were accepted as read without changes.

The first order of business was to consider an extension to Superintendent Roy McCoy’s contract.  The board voted to extend it another year.

Mr. McCoy said there will be some cosmetic changes to the school, such as new white boards for the elementary school and changing the carpet out in the elementary school, as it would be cheaper to replace the carpet every few years instead of cleaning the existing carpet. The Superintendent asked for approval on the financial statement and the April warrants.

Mr. McCoy made a recommendation to change the graduation dates. The board also discussed the implementation of the “Tango Tango” system, which would help in communication if a school bus got stuck or needed help. It would cost $145 to $300.

The board went into executive session. No action was taken upon reconvening in open session.

The board considered a couple of resignations, Bradly Brown, a Special Ed teacher and Charlotte Coleman, a Para-Professional. Evelyn Page was recommended to be hired to replace Mr. Brown. Trace Hall and Makenzie McMullins were recommended as Para-specialists to replace Mrs. Coleman.

Superintendent McCoy recommended the stipend for golf and shooting sports be set for $1,000. Brycen Roads was recommended to be promoted to Strength Coach. The next meeting will be June 18th, The meeting was adjourned.
