The Fulton Town Council met on Monday (6-8). All council members except Melissa Oller were present. After the invocation and the roll call, the previous meeting’s minutes were read and approved.
Francis Hendrix gave the financial report. The Street Fund has $48,791.90. The financial report was accepted.
John Pettit gave the Fire Department report. The insurance check from the wreck, in which a front side driver’s tire blew out and slammed the pumper into a side of a semi-truck was obtained and deposited in the fundraiser account. There will only be a few firefighters allowed to drive the new ladder truck. The pumper truck is currently in the process of being painted. The fire department report was accepted.
The water report was presented by Mayor Henry Hale. The city connected with FEMA for grants to repair the sewer pond and a drainage issue. Mayor Hale described the problem with the sewer lines. FEMA told Mayor Hale that it would cost $45,000, but FEMA would cover 70% of that cost. There council voted to accept the report as read.
Mayor Hale called on Diane Warren, a citizen, to talk about filling in a mud pit in front of the Fulton Union Church with gravel to make it easier to walk on. Mrs. Warren and a couple of other ladies are working on cleaning it up to make it usable again.
Mr. Earnest Brown asked why he was being charged for sewer, even though he wasn’t using it. Mayor Hale looked at a bill that Mr. Brown brought. Mayor Hale said he wasn’t and that those who lived outside the city limits only payed for water. Mayor Hale said that when he went up to Little Rock, he was asked how the city survived, due to Fulton having the lowest water rates in the state. The meeting then adjourned.
