Local Band to Bring the Party at Fireworks Show

HEMPSTEAD COUNTY – With the much anticipated 6th annual Sparks Fly in July Firework Show on the horizon, we decided to cover one of this year’s music groups named “Miller County Line”. The band will perform on July 4th from 7:30 pm until 9:00pm at the Hope Municipal Airport.
To learn more about the upcoming stars of Hempstead County, we decided to interview band leader John T. Miller:
Reporter: What are the names of the band members and what roles do they play?
John T: “Well, my son Andrew Miller is the lead vocalist and plays the acoustic guitar, Dave Almond is our lead guitarist, I play rhythm guitar, Dennis Hovarter plays drums, and Tom Lowe plays bass guitar.”
Reporter: What kind of music does this band perform?
John T: “We mainly like to play country, blues, and southern rock.”
Reporter: How long has the group been performing together?
John T: “We started practicing in November of last year, and we played our first show in February. We’ve played in Texarkana and Hot Springs, so this will be our first hometown show.”
Reporter: How was the band formed?
John T: “Well, we have all had a good bit of experience with music. My son Andrew decided that he wanted to pick up being a musician and so we gathered together a band with my son and a few of my friends. To me, it is really special because I get to spend good time with my son and my friends doing what we like most.”
Reporter: How many performances do y’all plan to put on this year?
John T: “We plan on hopefully being able to perform once a month, so twelve shows a year.”
Reporter: How did you get asked to play at the fireworks show?
John T: “Through our connection with Parks Director Summer Chambers.”
Reporter: What will the band’s program include in this show?
John T: “We have worked a good bit on our program for this show. We are planning on doing a mix of country, classic rock, and even a few slow songs. We like slow songs, but we really enjoy jamming a bit more than that.”
Reporter: Is the group excited to play in Hope?
John T: “This is the show we have looked forward to the most by far. Our band is made up of Hempstead County locals, and we love that we are getting the chance to perform for our community. We think it is a good opportunity to make ourselves known to the public a bit as well.”
Whether you are a country fan, rock fan, blues fan, or even into slow songs, the Sparks Fly in July firework show will be sure to entertain you with lights and sounds; locally born.
