STONEWALL, LA – Members of Scout Troop 5 of Hope, Arkansas, recently returned from an exciting and educational week at Kinsey Scout Reserve in Stonewall, Louisiana. The troop attended summer camp from June 14–20, 2026, where Scouts had the opportunity to advance their skills, earn merit badges, and build lasting friendships with Scouts from across the Ark-La-Tex region.
Throughout the week, Scouts participated in a variety of merit badge programs led by certified instructors. Merit badges earned by Troop 5 members included Archery, Shotgun Shooting, Rifle Shooting, Nature, Fish and Wildlife Management, First Aid, Space Exploration, and Disc Golf. These programs allowed Scouts to gain hands-on experience while learning valuable outdoor, safety, and leadership skills.
Five members of Troop 5 also completed the camp’s Scout March program. Participants met each morning at 6 a.m. and marched throughout the camp while learning about the Scout Law and the meaning behind its twelve points. At the conclusion of the week, those who successfully completed the program were awarded a Scout March cord to wear on their uniform in recognition of their dedication and perseverance. Troop 5 members who completed the Scout March were Lucas Matchett, Betty Wright, Makenzi Golden, Kody O’Brien, and Cooper Robertson.
In addition to merit badge classes, Scouts interacted with troops from neighboring communities, strengthening the spirit of Scouting through fellowship and teamwork. Evening activities focused on rank advancement, with Scouts practicing knots, lashings, and other essential Scouting skills necessary for their continued progress through the Scouting program.
Summer camp provides an important opportunity for Scouts to develop confidence, independence, and leadership while enjoying the outdoors. The experiences gained at Kinsey Scout Reserve will help Troop 5 members continue their growth as Scouts and leaders within our community.
