HOPE – Hope began their penultimate week of their 2026 season with a conference rivalry clash against the Nashville Scrappers at Legion Field on Tuesday April 14th. In continuation of a trend in recent games, the Bobcats held strong throughout the first half of the game, keeping the game close at a 1-1 stalemate, until an eight run onslaught in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to finish the game at 9-1 Scrappers.

The red and white started the match up with solid performances around the board. Leadoff hitter Jaiden Brown kept up his reliable batting with a double struck deep down the left field foul line. Following up was Austin Courtney, who produced a single, and finally, to score our first run, a simple but effective bunt from Sam Johnson to tally our first and only run of the game from home bound Jaiden Brown. The Scrappers would ultimately tie up the game in the top of the 2nd inning with a combo from Scrappers #8- and #9-Gauge Applegate and Brett Fritts, with the former hitting a double, and the latter hitting a sacrifice fly to score Nashville’s first run. Following this intriguing start however, the game slowed down immensely, with two and a half innings of pure defense class from both sides. Starring for the Bobcats on the field were Pitcher Sam Johnson, who produced a very consistent game with five strikeouts, Trey Hoglund, who played an impressive game at catcher with many great plays, and Austin Courtney, who played strong defense from center field. For the Scrappers, the pitching combination of #6 Jayden Goodson and #3 Luke Boon proved to be a roadblock to the Bobcat offense, only allowing the single aforementioned run and three hits.

Unfortunately for the home side, the game would fall into Nashville’s hands, with an important run being scored in the top of the fifth from an RBI single from #8 Gauge Applegate to score #2 Zeus Hutchinson, putting the Scrappers on top. From this point on, the away team would go on to dominate the Bobcats, scoring six runs in the sixth, and an additional run in the seventh, to bring the final score to 9-1 Nashville.

The Hope Bobcats will be seeking redemption in a match up against the Foreman Gators at home on April 16th at 5:00pm.
