
The Hope Kiwanis Club recently heard a program on James Black’s Bowie Heritage Festival set for this Friday and Saturday (4-24 and 4-25). This 5th annual festival features a variety of activities including a knife show in the WPA Gym, an antique Bowie Knife Exhibition in the WPA Gym, food vendors, crats, re-enactments, and more. Friday’s activities will include the announcement of the Knife Maker Awards and Forging Challenge Candidates at 9am at the WPA Gym at 9am Friday, a “Birth of the Bowie Knife Re-enactment at 10am, a talk by J.W. Wiseman at 11am at the Methodist Church, as well as presentations by Bill Worthen and Mark Zalesky. Saturday’s activities include the Grand Opening Ceremony at the 1874 Courthouse Courtyard at 9am, the Public Forging Challenge at the James Black School from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, and the James Black Arkansas State Cutting Competition Championship at the James Black School from 2:30pm to 5pm.
