HOPE – Iris Luna, 19, of Hope, has been arrested and charged with second degree battery from a knifing incident that occurred on Feb. 19.

According to a report from the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Landon Loe went to a residence on Hwy. 278 in reference to a battery at 9:01 p.m. on Feb. 19. When he got there he met with a woman who initially identified herself as Teresa Torres, though it was later learned she is Delma Torres. Torres reportedly told Loe a small party was being held at the residence when Luna came up and asked if Torres had a problem with her.

According to the report, Luna pulled a knife and stabbed Torres in the right calf. Torres reportedly threw Luna to the ground and wrestled the knife from here. Torres reportedly told Loe before she was able to disarm Luna, the suspect was trying to stab her in the stomach and chest area.
