Stevens honored by BMUMC
Sunday morning at 11:00am, Bruce Memorial United Methodist Church in Blevins presented Mike Stevens with an award. This award was in appreciation “for his many years of faithful service” to the church and surrounding community. According to Mike, he has been in attendance at Bruce Memorial since the 1940’s. Going strong at age 84, he is currently the oldest member of the congregation.
Mike Steven’s grandfather was the founder of the Blevins Bank back in 1912. When he passed away, his son, Mike’s father, took over the bank, and worked hard to keep it running through the Great Depression. Mike’s father headed the bank for over 60 years before asking Mike to take his place. At the time, Mike was already a successful banker in Little Rock, but returned home with his wife, Nell, to take over the family business. Mike retired in 1996, and has continued to be an active member of his church to this day.
Just last week Bruce Memorial celebrated Mr. Steven’s birthday, and was more than happy to celebrate him again this week. Mike’s years of service have not gone unnoticed, and it’s no secret that his church greatly appreciates him. As Bobby Taylor put it before handing Mike his award, “if he was a country record, he’d be a Golden Oldie.”
