Good time at the fireworks show

PRESCOTT – In preparation for the Chamber’s Fourth of July fireworks show Thursday night, area residents got off to an early start.

People living around the high school began shooting fireworks at 6 p.m. as vendors were getting ready for the event. Regardless of the heat and humidity, a good crowd showed up. which was good for sales of cold drinks and shaved ice. Several also took advantage of not having to cook and grabbed burgers, nachos and sandwiches from the vendors. Members of the Rotary Club were on hand conducting a food drive for the needy in the area.

Members of the Prescott Fire Department were on hand to take care of the fireworks, with two trucks on hand, and to shoot them off. More than 150 concussion bombs were on the baseball field to be fired into the night sky, and the first wasn’t lit until it was full dark. Once the show began, the fireworks went off in a continuous blast as quickly as the firemen could get from one to the next to light the fuse.

While the stands at Cummings Field weren’t full, the parking lot was, both at the high school and at the baseball complex. For close to 30 minutes, though, the sky was illuminated by the explosive display.
