Janice Gail (Cox) Burnette, 88, of Farmington, AR passed away August 3rd, 2026, at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
She was born April 29, 1938, in Hope, AR, to Lester and Maude Cox. On June 21, 1958, she married the love of her life Malcolm Burnette and together they had two beautiful children.
Gail worked for the Arkansas Highway Department, and later served as secretary and bookkeeper for Parkin, Arkansas Public Schools, as well as with APSCN (Arkansas Public School Computer Network).
Gall never met a stranger, and her home was always open for those she loved. Many stories were shared around her kitchen table while enjoying her home cooking. She loved to travel and it was a poorly kept secret that she could often be found at a slot machine. She may have set the Guiness Book of World Records for attending the most sporting events while supporting her husband and 3 generations of athletes. More than anything she loved being Mom to her children and Mamaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her seven older brothers and sisters: Ardell, Lyle, Gene, Lester Jr., and Carroll Cox, Vernell Faulk, and Joyce Simmons Meints; her husband, Malcolm; son, David Burnette, son-in-law, Jim Mallett; and grandson, Ryan Mallett.
She is survived by daughter, Debbie Mallett of Farmington, Arkansas; granddaughters Lauren Mallett-Hays (Justin) of Farmington, and Alison Hix (Ryan) of Maumelle, Arkansas; five great-grandchildren, Hadley, Harper, and Davis Hays, and Bear and Shep Hix; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home in Hope, Arkansas, with Pastor Alyssa Kuebler officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home of Hope.
