PRESCOTT – It was all about community policing.

The Prescott Police Department sponsored a lunch for widows and widowers at the PPD Thursday afternoon. Those attending enjoyed a meal of rotisserie and fried chicken, along with fried cabbage, creamed potatoes, pinto beans, rolls and hot water cornbread, along with a drink and dessert. Police Chief Ann Jordan said they’d planned for 45 people to attend. Overall, more than 30 showed up, mostly widows as there were few widowers in attendance.

The luncheon was paid for by the PPD.

Jordan thanked everyone for coming to the first annual Widows and Widowers Luncheon.

Prescott Mayor Terry Oliver read a proclamation proclaiming April 28,2022 as Widows and  Widowers Day in Prescott. He said other communities talk about community policing, the the PPD does it. This, he continued, is the third or fourth event held by the PPD as a way to build trust with the citizenry.

Oliver urged everyone to support widows and widowers, adding another such event will be held in September.

Tammie Rose, administrative assistant, asked everyone to make sure they signed in so they could be notified when future events are planned.
